In recent weeks Chris Tomlin and TobyMac have topped the US charts, Rapture Ruckus has done the same in New Zealand, and in Indonesia Sidney Mohede and Australian Darlene Zschech have topped the iTunes mainstream charts with the song It is Done ahead of Michael Bublé, Rihanna and One Direction.
Mohede is a worship leader who’s well known for the song Hosanna which he co-wrote with Israel Houghton.
Alan Kennedy from KI Entertainment says Christian artists topping the mainstream charts – at this time – is an indication of God’s favour on the sector.
Even closer to home this week, adding to its iTune chart success, Hillsong Church has topped the mainstream music charts in Australia with its latest album Zion from UNITED.
Hillsong previously topped the Australian Record Industry Association (ARIA) charts in 2004 with its live worship set For All You’ve Done. Thirteen of Hillsong’s sixty albums released since 1988 have made it into the top 10 on the ARIA charts, including last year’s live project called Cornerstone.
Joel Houston from UNITED says the church is honoured Zion has reached #1.
Hillsong further stated, “It is humbling and exciting to know that this album is inspiring people not just in Australia but across the globe to live with purpose and to put their trust in God. Music is an expression of our worship and UNITED consists of a great team of people passionate about revealing God through music. In a world where negativity is so dominant, we hope Zion can be a sound of joy and hope.”
