Edit: Run Like a Woman did receive the Compelling Content (Audio) award in this year’s Excellence in Media Awards.
Eternity‘s Run Like a Woman podcast has been nominated for this year’s Excellence in Media Awards presented by Christian Media and Arts Australia (CMAA).
The podcast is one of three finalists in the compelling audio category, with the winners to be announced on 5 September at CMAA’s CONNECT23 conference on the Gold Coast.
Run Like a Woman was selected for its episode titled, ‘Mother, daughter and the black cloud of depression’, which concluded the podcast’s first-ever season. The episode featured a conversation between a mother, Penny, and her daughter, Holly, who has suffered a lifelong struggle with depression and attempted to take her own life several times.
The pair open up about their very personal, vulnerable experiences – from Holly’s feelings of despair to Penny’s helplessness and admissions of the mistakes made. They also discuss their solutions to open communication, the love they share and the hope that Penny has because of her faith in God.
The aim of this public conversation, says Penny, is to bring these issues out into the light and open the door for others to share about their struggles with mental health, parenting and other difficult issues. With one in five young Australians struggling with their mental health, and suicide being the leading cause of death for those aged 15-24, conversations like this one are vital.
CMAA’s annual Excellence in Media Awards acknowledges the vision, passion, skill and effort of people and organisations seeking to share the hope of Jesus through media and the arts.
Other award categories include digital and screen media, outstanding innovation and community impact, as well as awards for the most valuable person and emerging talent in Christian media and arts. With most nominees being not-for-profits and community-funded radio stations, awards are also given for the most creative sales campaign and giving campaign of the year.
