There is good news for fully vaccinated Christians in NSW who love to lift their voice to God in song with other believers – congregational singing will be back in your church service soon.
The NSW government’s latest roadmap for easing COVID health restrictions says that, from Monday, November 8, singing will be allowed at indoor events for all fully vaccinated people. That means many NSW churches will ring with praise on Sunday, November 14.
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! – Psalm 100:1-2 ESV
Congregational worship singing is an integral part of many church services and has been greatly missed by many Christians. While praise and worship are not limited to singing, let alone to singing in a congregation, it is a beloved devotional practice for believers from right across the denominational spectrum.
And for those less vocally gifted worshippers – the ones who enjoy “making a joyful noise unto the Lord” nonetheless – there’s more good news from the state authorities. There will be more people allowed in church singing alongside you!
Density regulations in worship services will also ease from November 8, with one person per 2 square metres allowed in indoor areas. At present, the requirement is 4 square metres per person.
But worship enthusiasts may need to begin their vocal exercises now and be ready to project their voices, with mask-wearing in church continuing until the state reaches its 95 per cent double vaccination milestone or December 15 – whichever comes first.
While places of worship will be open to all, the announcement also states there is to be “no singing or dancing indoors for people who are not fully vaccinated.”
