A surprisingly great movie about a Christian leader, and a surprisingly great amount of relationship advice from a professional killer, are two of this week’s most notable cinema releases.
All Saints is based on the true story of a American salesman turned pastor, Michael Spurlock, who took a dying church in a most unexpected direction. Even more unexpected is that this unashamed “Christian movie” doesn’t suffer from the usual ailments of its peers (check out Mark Hadley’s review, above).
Also at cinemas is the altogether different The Hitman’s Bodyguard, a sweary and violent throwback to 1980s and 1990s action romps. Starring Ryan Reynolds as the bodyguard and Samuel L Jackson as the hitman, this mediocre romp does include at least one notable oddity: love advice from a hitman. Ben McEachen weighs up the heart matters of The Hitman’s Bodyguard to see if any of the hired gun’s advice hits the target.
