US Christian comedians John Crist and Trey Kennedy – who look uncannily alike – take hilarious jabs at millennial culture in a new video on YouTube called If Bible characters had iPhones.
In the three-minute video, the two stand-up comedians pretend to receive updates on Bible characters through social media, with hilariously goofy results.
“Dude, Jesus just got a blue checkmark? How did he get verified [on Twitter]? He only has 12 followers,” Crist quips to Kennedy, as they check their iPhones dressed in Roman garb.
Kennedy, a comedian and musician based in Oklahoma City, first teamed up with his lookalike Crist in 2017. Crist, who is the son of a pastor, is drawing national attention with his sold-out comedy shows in churches, clubs and theatres across the US. He has drawn more than a billion views of his videos such as Millennial International, Road Rage in the Church Parking Lot and Every Parent at Disney.
“It wasn’t always like that,” Crist says on his website. “One time when I was first starting out, I did an open mic at a Chili’s [fast-food outlet]. It was traumatising.”
Asked where he finds the inspiration for his jokes, Crist says, “Shoot, I grew up in the deep south, my dad is a pastor, and I was the third of eight home-schooled children. My first job was at [McDonald’s rival] Chick-fil-A. Coming from a background like that, how do you NOT write jokes?!”
