Jesus Revolution, the movie that sparked a powerful movement of God in Hollywood, is headed to Netflix in the U.S. this month. Greg Laurie, a main character in the film (played by Joel Courtney) and the pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship, announced the big news:
BIG NEWS!@JesusRevMovie coming to @netflix July 31st, 2023!
A whole new audience is going to see this film now. Let’s all be praying that God uses it to touch lives. pic.twitter.com/iz05n8CuN8— Greg Laurie (@greglaurie) July 4, 2023
While there is no indication yet whether Jesus Revolution will be released on Netflix in Australia, it is still showing at some cinemas and available for streaming through Google Play, YouTube, Apple TV and Prime Video.
With a 99 per cent audience score on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, the film nearly tripled box office projections on opening weekend.
The day after its release, Eternity‘s Anne Lim spoke with director Jon Erwin, the record-setting architect behind I Can Only Imagine and American Underdog and the only director ever to receive an A+ rating for four different films on CinemaScore.
Erwin described the impact of the Jesus Revolution in Hollywood, the delay of the movie’s release fitting God’s perfect timing, the enduring relevance of the story and his determination to reinstate Lonnie Frisbee in the history of the Jesus Movement.
Can’t wait to watch Jesus Revolution on Netflix?
Jonathan Roumie, who plays Lonnie Frisbee, also stars as Jesus in the record-breaking series The Chosen, which is available to stream for free on Netflix, online or in the new Chosen App.
The Chosen, like Jesus Revolution, represents a transformation in faith-based films, reframing the potential for the quality and scale of Christian entertainment.
In the early days of the series’ shocking success, director Dallas Jenkins told Eternity how he used to cringe at the idea of making Christian films, until God changed his mind and enabled The Chosen with some ‘impossible math’.
The days of questionable production quality and amateurish acting are long gone. If recent impact is anything to go by, God seems to have big plans for the industry of faith-based films.
