Classification: School Nurse (level based on experience) – Independent Schools NSW (Support and Operational Staff) Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2017
Status: Full Time (Term Time)
Reports to: Business Manager
Areas of responsibility:
- Managing the Student Office sick bay
- Guiding Student Office team in first aid
- Writing and Managing Student Office sick bay procedures
- Providing emergency nursing care to the College community
- Administrating prescribed daily medications to students and Nurse Initiated medications with parental consent
- Managing routine and incidental nursing/first aid on students in their classes and at sick bay
- Detecting and early intervening in the health needs of students
- Communicating management and action plans for students with medical needs and follow up with parents to ensure the plans on file are current
- Managing Health Care plans for College excursions and camps
- Interpreting student medical assessments, providing an understanding of educational and social implications
- Contacting and liaising closely with the Executive Team, Faculty Coordinators, Year Patrons, and the Pastoral Care Team on student health related conditions
- Contacting and referring to other medical practitioners where required
- Maintaining College medical records
- Developing and implementing health related policies and procedures eg administration of student medication
- Provisioning ongoing education for College staff regarding relevant care for specific illnesses eg Anaphylaxis, Diabetes etc.
- Organising student and staff vaccination days
- Participating in ongoing professional development of self and other staff members in relation to first aid and health plans for students
- Assisting in the prevention of accidents and illness within the College community by addressing health and safety issues
- Ensuring that emergency medical and first aid equipment is current, safe and functional
- Managing stored medications and discarding expired items
- Ordering of all medical supplies
- Maintaining and restocking of excursion and sport first aid kits
- Communicating medical information with the College community as required
- Answering of telephone enquiries and handling routine parent requests or concerns
- Preparing correspondence to parents, students and other stakeholders as required
- Performing general administration assistance as required
- Participating in College events and community activities
- Performing other duties as required by the Headmaster or Business Manager
Personal Profile:
It is expected that the College Nurse will be a Christian person who is team oriented, discreet, able to exercise initiative, reliability, patience, empathy, friendliness and is flexible and willing to consider further study if the opportunity presents.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Experienced Registered Nurse qualified to practice in NSW
- Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation Certificate
- Anaphylaxis and Asthma training
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Ability to develop procedures and train staff
- Well developed communication skills
- Works well as part of a team
- High level of computer literacy
- Administration experience
- Committed Christian and active member of a Church
