Christians across the world are praying for the recovery of the Queen of England after Buckingham Palace’s confirmation on Sunday that she had contracted COVID-19.
The palace said the 95-year-old monarch has been experiencing mild, cold-like symptoms and plans to continue her light duties this week.
The Queen’s diagnosis comes just under a fortnight after her son and heir to the throne, the Prince of Wales, announced he had contracted the COVID virus for the second time.
At that time, the palace confirmed the Queen had been in direct contact with 73-year-old Prince Charles in the days before his diagnosis. The Queen’s daughter-in-law and Prince Charles’ wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has also recently contracted COVID-19.
Queen Elizabeth is the world’s longest-reigning monarch, having held the British throne for 70 years. On February 6 this year, she marked her official Platinum Jubilee. Other commemorative events are planned throughout the year.
Following the announcement, scores of well-wishers have flooded social media conveying their best wishes for the Queen’s recovery, including national leaders such as Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, the senior bishop and principal leader of the Church of England and symbolic head of the worldwide Anglican Communion, wrote, “Every Sunday across the Church of England we pray for Her Majesty The Queen. We pray today especially for her comfort and swift recovery, and for all suffering from COVID.”

Some prayer points to help
Eternity readers looking to join in prayer for the Queen’s recovery, may like to use this ‘Collect for the Queen’ from The Book of Common Prayer.
Almighty and everlasting God,
we are taught by thy holy Word,
that the hearts of kings are in thy rule and governance,
and that thou dost dispose and turn them
as it seemeth best to thy godly wisdom:
we humbly beseech thee so to dispose and govern the heart of
Elizabeth thy Servant, our Queen and Governor,
that, in all her thoughts, words, and works,
she may ever seek thy honour and glory,
and study to preserve thy people committed to her charge,
in wealth, peace, and godliness:
grant this, O merciful Father, for thy dear Son’s sake,
Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
