The world’s favourite Bible verse this year is a stirring reminder to bring concerns to God in prayer and be grateful for what he has given to you.
According to YouVersion, the planet’s most popular Bible app, the one verse most engaged with during 2019 was Philippians 4:6 – “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”
Australia was one of many countries which turned most to Philippians 4:6, while Matthew 6:33 (“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”) was big in Spain, Thailand and Latin American nations such as Costa Rica and Peru. Russians honed in on Psalm 12:7 – “You, LORD, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked …”
Reaching more than 400 million downloads, the YouVersion app offers a vast snapshot of engagement with Scripture around the world. According to YouVersion, 2 billion highlights, bookmarks and notes were made by users during 2019. More than 478 million verses were shared.

“Our desire is to help people grow in their relationship with God by encouraging them to read the Bible and seek Him every day,” said YouVersion Founder Bobby Gruenewald in an official statement.
“We’re encouraged to see so many people turning to the Bible in response to their worries, remembering what God has done in their lives, and choosing to trust in His faithfulness.”
Last year’s most popular verse was Isaiah 41:10 – “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”
In 2017, YouVersion users leaned most towards Joshua 1:9 – “This is my command – be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
